There are two types of friendship in the world. One type stems from a physical instinctive attraction; you like your friend not because of any particular qualities or talents they possess, but simply because you are drawn to them.

"C'est mon ami parce que je l'aime parce que c'est mon ami."

(French: He is my friend because I love him because he is my friend.) This intimacy is unreasonable and indefensible.

Life is often ironic, and you may feel this way about someone who doesn't deserve your affection at all. Although this type of friendship is unrelated to sex, it is indeed very similar to love: it arises in the same way and may very well fade in the same way.
